While countries across Europe will have local laws that apply to ship and boat navigation, there is a common requirement worldwide for all leisure, commercial and military vessels to conform to the IMO International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. As Steve Austin, Senior Policy Lead at the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) explains: "The COLREGs apply to all vessels, there is no differentiation between coded and non-coded vessels. Should the whistles prove not to conform then they will need to be modified or changed."
"Whistles should conform to the performance in COLREGs, Appendix III and the appropriate parts of IEC 60945 to EN60945 which deal with the marine operating environment."
All Kahlenberg products meet or exceed these requirements. Many other new and currently installed sound signals are non-compliant and might be breaching maritime law and invalidating insurance cover.

M-126 push button switch
The Kahlenberg M-126 is a momentary push button rocker switch that is rated to 20A at 12V and hence is suitable both for smaller leisure craft installations and also for use with the M-485A Signal Controller.
The M-126 features standard 6.3mm connections to the rear face and is watertight.

19220 push button switch
The Kahlenberg 19220 is a momentary push button switch that is designed for low profile fascia mounting. It is rated to 10A and robustly built out of a plastic housing with a titanium retaining ring for deck and wheelhouse use in commercial and leisure vessels.
The 19220 is watertight to IP 67.

19215-LC bulkhead mount push button switch
The Kahlenberg 19215-LC utilises the 19220 momentary push button switch and combines it with a bulkhead mount housing with a watertight gland for cable entry; ideal where flush mount switches are not practical on deck or the wheelhouse of commercial and leisure vessels.
The 19215-LC is watertight to IP 67.
