While countries across Europe will have local laws that apply to ship and boat navigation, there is a common requirement worldwide for all leisure, commercial and military vessels to conform to the IMO International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. As Steve Austin, Senior Policy Lead at the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) explains: "The COLREGs apply to all vessels, there is no differentiation between coded and non-coded vessels. Should the whistles prove not to conform then they will need to be modified or changed."
"Whistles should conform to the performance in COLREGs, Appendix III and the appropriate parts of IEC 60945 to EN60945 which deal with the marine operating environment."
All Kahlenberg products meet or exceed these requirements. Many other new and currently installed sound signals are non-compliant and might be breaching maritime law and invalidating insurance cover.
KA series AC air horn compressors
The Kahlenberg KA1000 and KA2000 marine duty air compressors are powered by 120V/240V AC single phase supplies to provide a powerful and reliable air supply for Kahlenberg Chimetone models between the T-1 and T-3A.
Both models are rated for continuous duty and utilise an oil-less design for easy maintenance and Jun-Air compressors for excellent reliability. Thermal protection and vibration protection are employed as standard.
Kahlenberg KA1000 marine duty air horn compressor
The Kahlenberg KA1000 is particularly well matched to the needs of the Kahlenberg T-1 and T-2 Chimetone air horns. It is quiet in operation, only 69dB(A) @ 1m and utiiises twin compressors totalling 1.2hp to deliver free air distribution at 8 bar of 3.11CFM (88 l/m). Power consumption is 15A at 120V or 7.5A at 240V.
All fittings, the ASME air tank and tubing are supplied in the kit, as are the safety valve, air gauge and ball valves. All fittings are instant connect to minimise installation time. The only wiring required is connection of the compressor to the vessel's AC supply. The tank can be installed vertically or horizontally and total package weight is 57kg (126lb).
The supplied air regulator allows for controlled air consumption without reducing the volume of air available in the system to ensure that the air horn does not fade. Maximum pressure is 150psi (10.3bar).

Kahlenberg KA2000 marine duty air horn compressor
The Kahlenberg KA2000 provides the additional capacity to power the Kahlenberg T-2 and T-3A Chimetone air horns. It utiiises a 1.5hp motor to deliver free air distribution at 8 bar of 3.88CFM (110 l/m). Power consumption is 16.6A at 120V or 8.3A at 240V.
