While countries across Europe will have local laws that apply to ship and boat navigation, there is a common requirement worldwide for all leisure, commercial and military vessels to conform to the IMO International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. As Steve Austin, Senior Policy Lead at the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) explains: "The COLREGs apply to all vessels, there is no differentiation between coded and non-coded vessels. Should the whistles prove not to conform then they will need to be modified or changed."
"Whistles should conform to the performance in COLREGs, Appendix III and the appropriate parts of IEC 60945 to EN60945 which deal with the marine operating environment."

P449-Series DC air horn compressors
Kahlenberg P449-Series marine grade air compressors can be coupled to Kahlenberg's K Series and Zero Series air horns as well as the Chimetone D-1. They are supplied as full kits, with the correct grade of tubing and a safety valve, air gauge and push-fit connections. The supply is regulated for controlled air consumption.

P449-13 and P449-14 marine grade air horn compressors
The P449-13 (12V DC) and P449-14 (24V DC) compressor kits (pictured) are suitable for all Zero Series Kahlenberg air horns, plus the Chimetone D-1. Operation is quiet, only 69 dB(A) @ 1m; the twin compressors are vibration isolated.
Current draw is maximum 46A at 12V and 28A at 24V. Free air delivery (FAD) at 8 bar is 1.78CFM (50l/m). Maximum pressure is 150psi (10.31 bar).

P449-17 and P449-18 marine grade air horn compressors
The very compact P449-17 (12V DC) and P449-18 (24V DC) compressor kits are suitable for S-0A and D-0A Zero Series Kahlenberg air horns. Operation is quiet and the single compressor is vibration isolated.
Current draw is maximum 21A at 12V and 12A at 24V. Free air delivery (FAD) at 100psi is 0.85CFM (24l/m) on the P449-17 and 0.99CFM (28l/m) on the P449-18. Pressure is regulated between 120psi-150psi (8.3bar-10.3 bar).
